spreaders and harvesters, and more. At the heart of AI is information. AI can tell farmers soils conditions, irrigation needs, weather patterns, and market demand for products. AI can be used to match seed choice to soils. AI can help farmers adopt regenerative agricultural practices. On the one hand, AI technologies could increase

intensive! According to the CNBC report, a LaserWeeder can improve crop yields and save farmers up to 80% of expensive weed management costs that use herbicides. Also, in that herbicidal chemicals can damage topsoil, and destroy the enzyme-rich soil microbiology, the LaserWeeder is environmentally friendly.

The advent of the internet brought the dot-com era in the ‘90’s. Then it was all about the cloud . And these days, AI (Artificial Intelligence) is the talk of the town - fueling the stock market, transforming the way we invent things, and enabling brilliant problem solving with just a hand-held device. The concept of artificial intelligence has been around for decades.

yields, increase the health quality of crops, and expand GDP for countries that use these technologies. On the other hand, AI technologies could replace workers and cause high levels of unemployment and hardship for those employees in these areas. The solution must

According to Carbon Robotics website (www.carbonrobotics.com), the outstanding features of the LaserWeeder are: it can kill up to 300,000 weeds per hour, it can operate day or night, it can operate in all kinds of soil, and, depending on use, its cost can be recovered in one to three years. Traditional farm equipment makers are moving into various AI powered technologies. Deere has acquired several robotics companies - Bear Flag Robotics and Blue River Technology , which could make Deere the “Tesla” of farm vehicles, with a driverless tractor! However, this trend appears to be in a very early stage and many years away from being mainstream. But AI powered robotics technologies will continue to enter the farm industry with AI empowered robotic fertilizer

be educational programs for those workers impacted by the inevitable AI into agriculture. Farm workers can learn alternative agricultural- related activities that utilize AI technologies. Education is the key to the AI transition on all fronts. Artificial intelligence itself is inherently a learning process. An intelligent computer is one that learns and expands its ability and what it knows through processing data input. Which is exactly what the human mind does in all educational processes. AI is coming to all walks of life in a big way. We can’t hold back the title wave. We may as well embrace AI as a force that can help us realize more of our human potential, and one that we can choose to use to serve the greatest good. -- RC Editor

But lately AI is stepping into center stage for the most fundamental operations - the way we shop, learn, travel, get medical care. And it is becoming integral to agricultural practices. Carbon Robotics , a start-up company based in Washington state, was recently named to CNBC’s top 50 Disruptor list. The company’s product, LaserWeeder , usesAI powered lasers toeliminate unwanted weeds, while leaving desired agricultural growth intact. The LaserWeeder uses computer vision and AI deep learningmodels to identify weeds, and then zap the weeds at their growth center. The weeds then become organic matter that can actually nourish the standing crop! Use of herbicides to manage weeds is expensive and labor

annually. The area is known as a recreational mecca for mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, white water rafting, kayaking, and fly fishing, plus winter sports including skiing, snowboarding, dog- sledding, and snowmobiling. Not to mention the annual Sisters rodeo! West of the Cascades, the Willamette Valley is known for its premier Pinot Noir. As Oregon’s leading wine region, it is home to over 700 wineries. The Willamette Valley also boasts luscious blackberries, and some even grow in the wild. Oregon has a highly diverse agricultural industry with more than 250 commodities, from wheat and cattle, to fruits and vegetables and berries, to Christmas trees. Many farmers and ranchers use conservation- minded ranching practices and sustainable agriculture methods. In 1977, the Kiger Mustang was discovered in a remote area of Beatty’s Butte in southeast Oregon. This unique breed

blue depths of Crater Lake (the deepest lake in the entire United States at 1946 feet) to the fertile Willamette Valley. And then there are the trees! Oregon is home to more than 10 billion trees on forest service land. Although some trees were lost in forest fires, Oregon’s State Department of Forestry promotes reforestation as well as sustainable forestry practices for the state’s huge timber industry. Reforestation, along with a significant amount of rainfall particularly west of the Cascade Mountains, combine to perpetuate Oregon’s signature green look. Many out-of-staters associate Oregon with rain, and the Oregon coast does in fact average 70-80 inches of rainfall a year. However some parts of central and eastern Oregon have dry climates. For example, popular Bend, Oregon and its neighboring community of Sisters, pivotally located at the eastern base of the Cascades, average 300 days of sunshine

Oregon’s population was estimated to be 4.233 million in 2023. The population has increased about 8% over the last 10 years. Oregonians themselves may prefer that outsiders stay away and leave this pristine state to its own, but Oregon provides a multitude of factors to lure people. For starters, Oregon is one of only five states in the US that has no sales tax. In California, sales tax rates range from 7.25% to over 10% in some out-lying areas. Sales tax applies to everything from gas, clothing, discretionary purchases, and restaurant meals. The absence of sales tax can add significantly to the bottom line for every household. And although Oregon does have state income tax, the top marginal tax rates are lower than California’s rates. Oregon offers a range of diversity — from its 363 miles of coastline to the year-round snow capped peaks of Mt. Hood to the raging waters of the Roger River to the rich

possesses characteristics of the original Spanish Mustang. Before the Kigers were found, some of these Spanish lines were thought to be extinct. The remaining Kiges have been protected since the 1980’s, and continue to reside in the Kiger Gorge in the Steens Mountains. In spite of soaring appreciation over the last decade, costs of home ownership in Oregon remain below California housing costs, which sendsmany Californians north! The housing market in Oregon suffers from the same phenomenon that is found throughout the USA: low housing supply relative to demand. As a land of great beauty and diversity, many opportunities await those who follow the trail to Oregon!
